Plano, TX – July 13, 2018 – Reliant Worldwide Plastics announces that the United States Patent Office (USPO) has awarded Reliant a patent for its Thermoplastic Injection Molded Component with Integral Thermoplastic Positioning System for Reinforced Composite Structures. This novel process methodology allows for the use of thermoplastic carbon reinforced substructures to be molecularly integrated to a characteristically compatible thermoplastic, pre-colored and textured, aesthetically pleasing overmold shells that are lighter, yet stronger than products made out of aluminum. The Internal Thermoplastic Position System (ITPS) portion of the patent allows the known strength of the substructure to remain constant and repeatable during the thermal dynamics of the overmold process.
This U.S. patent award compliments the already granted European patent counterpart for the same process technology from the European Patent Office (EPO) several years ago. While application of this patent is ideal for the aerospace industry because the decreased weight of reinforced thermoplastic composite structures saves airlines on jet fuel cost, it is also viable in any industry that utilizes carbon-based fuels and/or where weight reduction is a benefit.
